Restrictions on ‘manually applied lists/numbering’
primedocs-version: 4.0.30091.0 or higher
Lists in snippets/Word content have limitations.
Difference to Classic
Everything described here in connection with lists in snippets refers to WordContent. Classic was not taken into consideration at any point. Therefore, the behaviour may be different and look different there.
Snippet-wide restarts / restart only through styles
Snippet-wide restarts are only possible through styles.
In the case of manual lists, i.e. the list is located in the paragraph, it is not possible for the restart to affect multiple snippets. This means that when a snippet with a list of this type is inserted, the numbering starts from the beginning each time. The restart does not affect the second inserted snippet. This can be seen in the image.

The following shows that it is possible to create a restart snippet across multiple elements. To do this, the list must be of the type ‘Lists by paragraph style’ or ‘List style by paragraph style’. This means that the list is not located in the paragraph, but in the style. See chapter List by style Style has list .

It is therefore important that the list is created in the respective type, as these have different effects.
- Snippet-wide restarts possible
- Lists by paragraph style
- List style by paragraph style
- No snippet-wide restart
- List of ‘manually applied lists’ in paragraph
- List style in paragraph
List types and how to create them
The following describes how to create all four different types of lists.
1a) List on paragraph (‘manually applied lists’ on paragraph)
A manual list can be created directly on a paragraph as follows.
- Start → ‘Define new list with multiple levels’

- Optionally customise the list definition, e.g. add characters to ‘Enter formatting for number’.

- Create the list by clicking OK.
1b) List style to paragraph
- To do this, select the menu item ‘Define new list type’.
- Then simply create the list style and define a name.
- Optionally, you can customise the formatting for the list under the menu Format → Numbering.
- Create the list by clicking OK.

List by style - Style has list
These types enable a restart across snippets.
2a) List by paragraph style
- Create a new paragraph style
- Start → ‘Define new list with multiple levels’
- Select ‘Link to style’ and click on the paragraph style you just created
- Create the list by clicking OK

Finished list

2b) List style through paragraph style
- Create a new paragraph style
- Start → ‘Define new list type’
- Under Format → select ‘Numbering’
- Click on Expand at the bottom left if it does not say Reduce → select Link to style and select the paragraph style you just created

- Create the list by clicking OK
Finished list

Documentation Layout Manual
primedocs Text Modules (Word Content) supports the use of lists.
Word itself supports the definition of lists via the following four variants:
- 1a. Manual list on paragraph
- 1b. List style on paragraph
- 2a. List by paragraph style
- 2b. List style by paragraph style
If the list is to restart each time it is inserted, variant 1a or 1b must be used:
In the example, a Word Content with a manual list was created on the paragraph and inserted twice. The list restarts at 1 each time.

If the list is to continue across several Word Contents, variant 2a or 2b must be used:

In the example, a Word content with a list was created using paragraph style (multi-level list) and inserted twice. The list is thus continued.
