Users, profiles and Signature Profiles

Users vs. Profiles

What is the difference between a user and a profile?

UserProfile
The user is a parent element. The profile is a child element of the user. It is attached to the user and inherits the user's information. This means that a profile never exists without a user.
There is only ever 1 user per end user.Several profiles can be attached to one user.
A user does not belong to an organisational unit.A profile must always belong to an organisational unit.
The user has a unique SID (identification feature) is linked to the Active Directory (AD) and receives changed information from there every morning at 4 am.A profile also has an internal ID, but this is usually irrelevant.

Profile fields that are not manually overwritten also inherit AD updates via the user

Profiles vs. additional profiles

What is the connection?

As described above, several profiles are attached to a user. A profile now in turn has a container, the "signature profile" with at least one, but possibly several profiles. This can be viewed in the UI under "Additional profiles". The signature profile can contain an infinite number of profiles.

Additional profiles can only be added to the signature profile if they have been authorised by the corresponding user.

What is the benefit of the signature profile?

A profile with a signature profile with several additional profiles has an effect on the templates: With a profile with several additional profiles, a user can sign in letters with two other users, for instance.
